A sport which spans centuries and continents, it’s argued that the disciplines involved in cross country skiing sparked the entire snowsports world. What used to be a form of transport in cold climates has led onto a well loved passtime. Nowadays it’s still very popular – you can find cross country tracks and trails in ski resorts and places like the Scandinavian lowlands where there’s plenty of snow but little to no gradient for alpine skiing. Most people enjoy cross country skiing recreationally, often as a winter alternative to hiking when the snow is too deep.
Cross country skiers have streamlined equipment to let them glide along with minimal resistance – skis are long, thin and straight, boots are lightweight and professional cross country skiers wear skin tight clothes and aerodynamic helmets. Big coats and salopettes are usually not needed while skiing cross country – it requires a lot of effort so breathable, thinner clothes suffice.
Here on Snowleader, we have everything you need to get kitted out for cross country skiing : skis, boots, bindings, poles, accessories and more. You can find suitable clothing in our Technical Clothing sections.
