Leather walking boots are the classic walking shoes – and for good reason ! Waterproof, durable and sturdy, leather walking boots are an investment which will last many a hike. With the right care, they will keep your feet warm, dry and stable. An example might be the famous Meindl Super Prefekt.

Some are lined with GORE-TEX® to for a second barrier to ensure maximum impermeability and breathabilty.

Synthetic walking boots are are improving every year – nowadays many mimic the desirable qualities of leather boots while remaining much lighter than their leather counterparts. GORE-TEX® linings and Vibram soles mean that synthetic boots can be just as hardy and effective as leather boots. Examples here might be the Meindl Himalaya Gore Tex MFS or Lowa Renegade GTX Mid

With many choices from all the leading brands;  MeindlScarpaSalomonMillet  and more, we are sure that you will find the right walking boot for you.

Which style?

High cut, stiff walking boots are usually used for extreme expeditions which cover a variety of terrain like jagged rock and ice on higher summits. Hard soles are required for use with crampons, and high cuts are for maximum ankle, foot and lower leg support while navigating tricky routes.

However for day strolls in mountains, such stiff, unforgiving boots would be unnecessary ! Soft,  synthetic, low cut boots can be used for walks in the valleys and up the mountains alike. Perfect for paths and trails, this type of boot is a favourite with many recreational walkers for its affordability and light weight.

We also have a range of trail shoes – ultra light, breathable and grippy, these shoes are perfect for shorter walks and runs on trails, when a super supportive, large boot is too much.
