With a Avabag airbag system from the brand aiming to reduce weight to a minimum, its weight of just 1830 grams (bag + airbag) and 2040 grams all-inclusive (bag + airbag + cartridge) make the Ascent 28 S a relatively light airbag.
Another feature of the Avabag system is that it offers you the possibility to practise triggering the bag: without a cartridge in place, you can practise triggering the airbag as many times as you like to prepare yourself for its potential use. The small trigger system is integrated into the interior of the inflation unit and forms a robust, fully enclosed system.
In terms of capacity, the Ascent 28 S offers 28 litres of useful volume and three interior pockets that will provide you with plenty of storage space for outings lasting several days: safety equipment, hydration system, spare clothing, food, etc. With its many attachments, you can add a rope, ice axe, skis and poles.
In order to limit its total weight (system and cartridge included), Ortovox uses ultra-light but resistant materials such as Robic Ripstop 100D Nylon and leaves out all the components that are not essential.
The Ascent is not only lightweight, but also very comfortable: its padded 3D back panel distributes the load evenly between the hip strap and the slightly padded shoulder straps. Other features include a circular zip for quick access to the main compartment, diagonal ski attachments, as well as ice axe and rope ties, making it ideal for the most demanding ski tours.
Attention, this backpack is supplied with the Ortovox AVABAG Unit system, but without trigger set (gas bottle).
