Burton's Ruler Step On® is a men's all-mountain snowboard boot. Wishing to revisit and re-launch the step-in bindings, Burton is once again making history in the snowboarding world with this successful new generation of Step-On® boots and bindings.
The Ruler Step On® is the adapted version of the Ruler, the all-mountain boot that has proven itself in the field of multi-purpose boots by its characteristics and high-end performance. Safe, comfortable, versatile... in short, a solid basis from which Burton could develop the reliable Ruler Step On® design.
The main difference between strap-in and Step On® bindings is that it is the boot that determines which binding/boot pack to get and no longer the binding itself. The Ruler Step On® with its medium flex (6/10) and heel support with the Lock-Up Cuff system offers the perfect overall foot hold for releasing in the snowpark and carving on the piste. More flexible than the Photon Step On®, the Ruler Step On® is made for riders with a more relaxed style
With the Step On ® system, the point is to be able to put your bindings on while standing, by simply stepping into the fixing points on the sides of the feet and and the back on the spoiler. No need to sit in the cold, wet snow to put on your shoes. Plus, no one will be complaining about having to wait for you at the ski lifts!
The major benefit of this new system is the responsiveness in the power transfer from boots to board. Because of the connection points, particularly the highback one, the boots are literally stuck down from the highback to the baseplate so shifts from edge to edge have never been so fast.
If you want to stand out this winter with innovative and, in particular, high-performing equipment, then go for Ruler Step On®. Advanced level snowboarders who like to be ahead of the trend will love these all-mountain boots.
Only works with Burton Step On® bindings.
Flex: 6/10, flex médium.
Ease of fitting : +++
Liner:
Imprint ™2: Lock-up cuff and inner lace lock. Lightweight, resistant panels. Velcro fastening liner. Thermoformable.
Thinsulate ™ 3M insulation: lining that is twice as warm with insulation that provides heat, even when wet.
Lock-up cuff: low profile inner cuff that keeps the laces at the forefoot and ankle: ultimate hold.
Cushioning:
Isothermal Sleeping Bag technology: light, thin layer to insulate your foot.
Lacing:
BOA Coiler™ closure system: these Burton New England Rope laces are indestructible and guaranteed for life. The Coiler reel is a quick and effective system to adjust laces easily. Natural fibre ropes have a more natural flex and feel for greater comfort.
Comfort:
Total Comfort Construction: Best possible feel from the very first use. The Total Comfort design leaves out the process of moulding the foot to the liner, favouring instead a liner that adapts to your body directly.
Snow proof internal gusset: the lower zone of the boot is completely sealed off from the snow, keeping feet warm and dry all day.
Shrinkage™ Footprint Reduction Technology: reduces the overall footprint of the boot in full size (it is made shorter, lighter and more elegant).
Outsole:
Step On® EST® outsole: outsole developed to adapt better to the EST bindings so that connection and information transfer is even quicker.
Sizing tip: We recommend that you order a size up from your usual size.
Coming from the old school for whom a snowboard worthy of the name must be in classic camber and straps bindings and not step-in bindings of the 90s, we were not necessarily thrilled! But once you get your feet in it, you have to admit that it's pretty good and Burton's on its way to making a move in the snowboarding standards. With a touch of madness, the guys at Burtontook care to choose a reliable and solid model that is the Ruler for this Step On® version. Support, comfort and versatility are all there for this Step On® boot from the freestyle all-mountain range.
As for the Ruler Step On, the big surprise comes from the reactivity and the link between the toe and heel supports despite a soft boot! The change from edge to edge is ultra-fast. A small negative comes from snow obstructing the bindings, which requires you to sweep the snow from the base and the sole so you can attach the shoes easily without bending down.
What surprised us the most was the awareness of the small degree of freedom of movement that straps offer. Let us expand. When you want to pull an ollie, the base of the boots move a little bit during this pop movement. With Step On® boots and bindings lugs, the boot is literally pressed into the binding, which changes the way you ride a little bit.
The other positive point comes from the robust landing support, which combined with good reactions, allows you to get off the nose and move quickly after landing a little too far forward. We couldn't test the system on big impacts but the technology seems to be well enough developed to support a slightly firmer ride style.
So if you are curious and ready to try the experience, we can only recommend the Ruler Step On® to discover new sensations carving and in the snowpark.
Advantages: speed, responsiveness, comfort and foot support
Disadvantages: changes the way you ride a little bit
