Black Diamond is an American company created by a climber, Yvon Chouinard, who is also the founder of Patagonia. A promotor of clean climbing in the 1970s with a few beautiful climbs to her name (climbing without securing with pitons or spits, instead using only stoppers), Yvon Chouinard began selling climbing equipment, and inparticular stoppers. Her two companies grew to become key players in the mountaineering and outdoor sector. Now more than ever Black Diamond offers climbing equipment, but also skiing and hiking equipment. The company is also one of the few (four) manufacturers of avalanche airbags and also offers a respirator for use in the event of an avalanche.
