A semi-automatic crampon-compatible alpine running shoe with such a low weight did not exist until now. Scarpa has made it possible and offers with its Ribelle S HD a shoe that is up to date, designed for the technical alpinist or fast-hiker who wants to start from the valley and reach the most beautiful peaks, often still snow-covered. Scarpa makes this practice possible with just one pair of shoes, and the most incredible part is that the weight remains extremely light.
The Ribelle S HD is a very technical shoe. In terms of protection, it integrates directly into the upper a new waterproof and breathable HDry® membrane, which prevents water stagnation inside the upper: the shoe never gets heavier, even during heavy rain. The Ribelle S HD also features a stretch Sock-Fit Plus gaiter that does not hinder your stride and keeps out external elements such as snow, mud, and stones.
Regarding the sole unit, the Ribelle S HD offers the best grip thanks to an outer sole made of Vibram® Megagrip: it performs equally well on dry and wet terrain and offers excellent durability over time. The midsole made of medium-density EVA and the anti-torsion reinforcements in TPU provide the perfect balance between cushioning and rigidity necessary for the most technical terrain and crampon use. In fact, the Ribelle S HD even allows attachment of semi-automatic crampons thanks to its rear endpiece, ideal for more demanding ascents or for crossing snowfields.
