The Capitan Mips is a climbing helmet by Black Diamond.
New from Black Diamond, the Capitan is placed between the Half Dome and the Vision. This helmet makes a compromise between accessibility, durability and safety.
Here in its version MIPS, the Capitan Mips has a technology that reduces rotational impacts on the skull. The system allows the helmet to rotate on impact, protecting against brain damage by redistributing oblique impacts on the helmet.
The Capitan meets UIAA standards and offers top, back and side head protection. The helmet is built in 3 parts.
First of all, a layer of EPP (Expanded Poplypropylene) creates the overall structure of the helmet. As reinforcement, a layer of expanded Polystyrene is placed on the top of the skull where impacts are most likely to occur during climbing. On top of this, a layer of ABS solidifies the helmet to provide resistance to penetration.
To guarantee optimal comfort, large openings on the sides guarantee good breathability that will keep your head cool during the effort.
If you are looking for an intermediate level, versatile and durable climbing helmet, the Capitan will be an excellent choice.
