The Helio Carbon 88 is a touring ski by Black Diamond.
The Helio Carbon range are backcountry skis. The skis are similar to the Helio Recon range that we already knew, but in a lighter version to be able to take on more of the unevenness. Available in several widths from 88 for long hikers on technical terrain to 115 for powder lovers in search of fresh powder.
The Helio Carbon 88 is the lightest ski of the Helio Carbon range. It is designed for skiers looking for lightness to cope with long outings far from the beaten track
This ski has a Paulownia wood core reinforced with a carbon fibre structure and strategic fibreglass placement. This structure offers a progressive flex with good torsional rigidity for such a light ski. The ski also has ABS edges down the entire length of the ski. This provides cushioning and a more incisive and easy edge hold. Finally, the front rocker ensures good lift in powder snow, especially when making the first tracks in fresh snow
As you will have understood, this is a light ski touring, ideal for long and committed outings that start early in the morning
This is a very good, light and high performance ski for touring. It will follow you everywhere on your longest and most committed outings being barely felt thanks to its weight of 2.58kg per 170cm pair. When it comes to downhill it does very well considering its size, the carbon fibre does its job and makes the ski rigid enough to feel safe on the descent
Advantages: light and responsive
Disadvantages: none
