The BMT 109 returns this year to Volkl's free touring range with a brand new design! A moreish mixture of high-end technology specific to the brand, it is a real joy to use on both ascents and descents.
Its construction teams 3D Ridge Carbon technology, which uses a super slim profile to create a very lightweight ski, with a Full Carbon Jacket, which stiffens and stabilises the ski for improved performance when you're out skiing. Aiming to optimise the ski's weight on ascents as well, this ski uses ICE OFF Topsheet to prevent ice and snow sticking to the ski and weighing it down.
Its very reasonable waist width (109 mm) makes it perfect for freeride descents and its super light weight makes ascents easier without affecting its float in powder. Sheer pleasure on every descent!
The BMT 109 has a Full Rocker shape that helps wide skis turn more easily. Its straight sidewalls under the waist gives you a secure grip and good power transfer to the edges.
BMT 109s are aimed at experienced freeriders who really want to commit on every descent without compromising the ski's performance on the ascent.
Turn radius:
- 18.5m for a 166cm size
- 22.4m for a 176cm size
- 26.5 for a 186cm size
Core:
Multi Layer Woodcore Light: A core of compact, lightweight wood for more power and energy.
Rocker:
Full Rocker: Enables wide skis to turn more easily.
Base:
P-Tex 4500: Compact base with excellent glide.
Technology:
- 3D Ridge Carbon: The most extreme and effective construction. Precision flexion definition with precision power transfer from the tip to the ski's tail. Ultra-light, reduced rotational forces.
- SkinPin Technology: Skins are connected by a pin with the ski's shovel (rotation of 90°). Result: 100% reliable bindings. Since the device is visible from above, the skier has perfect control at all times. The hole at the tip of the ski can be used to attach a rescue sled or luge if needed.
- Taper shape: The tip and tail of the skis are thinner, improving the way the ski performs in crust.
- Full Carbon Jacket: Carbon cladding over the entire core.
- Center Sidewall: Straight sidewalls under the waist.
- Ice Off Topsheet
Although it is a pure touring ski, the BMT 109 still lets you approach piste skiing, even if it does not allow you to go for these crazy carves. Its light weight saves a lot of energy when going uphill, which is particularly useful when it comes to focusing on the descent without being overly tired, even after rather long ascents. Once going downhill, the BMT 109 fully expresses itself in fresh snow thanks to its Full Rocker and its top-of-the-range construction.
Assets: Light, excellent uphill/downhill pleasure ratio, dynamic
